Coal, a sedimentary rock composed mainly of carbon, is used to produce electricity or heat through combustion. It currently meets nearly a third of the world’s energy needs and produces roughly two fifths of global electricity. Coke, a fuel usually derived from coal is used for smelting iron ore during steel manufacturing.
World kingdom Investments entered the coal market in 2006 and today trades both steam coal and anthracite out of four main regional centres, which are Singapore, Geneva, London and Houston. We partner with, fund or own mines in the United States, Indonesia, Canada, South Africa and Russia, and have a presence in every major mining region of the world.
We invest in production, logistics and infrastructure and supply coal across the Asia Pacific region and into most of the main European power utilities. Notable investments include the Maputo terminal in Mozambique, providing export capacity for miners in southern Africa, and stakes in Hillsborough, a coal mining company that operates in British Columbia where it serves the local cement industry.
